When did BCC start?

We held our first Sunday service at The Vyne Community Centre on Sunday 28th October 2001.

What are your doctrinal beliefs?

Please see ‘Statement of Belief’ page.

How did Brookwood Community Church (BCC) start?

The Church was started by 21 adults and 13 children, as a response to a clear sense that God was encouraging us to start a new Church on the new ‘Brookwood Manor’ housing development.

Are you part of a bigger organisation?

BCC is a part of the ‘Churches together around Knaphill’ and ‘Churches together in Woking’ groups. We are also members of ‘The Evangelical Alliance’ and ‘Willow Creek Association’, but not part of a denomination.

Who leads BCC?

BCC is lead by a team of people rather than a single individual. For more details see the 'Leadership Team' page.

What is there for the children?

We have currently suspended all our activities in order to dedicate ourselves to prayer. But we have a good contingent of children among our number and have plenty of experience having run a Crčche for the under 4’s and 'Godzone', our children’s Church for the 4-12’s. Also our teenagers have their own group that they named 'Duracell'.

Why don't you meet like a regular church?

After seven years of meeting together on Sunday mornings we felt that God was leading us into something new that wasn't based around a Sunday service, and a new culture of not waiting on one man at the front. Being in Woking we can afford to be doing something different as there are plenty of regular churches for people to choose from.

Do other things happen during the week?

Various small groups meet weekly in various homes - both daytime and evenings.  These are an opportunity to study the Bible together informally, to take specific training courses and to deepen friendship. See Small Groups for more. Occasionally we meet as a membership to share communion, discuss church direction, pray and worship together. At present our focus is solely on prayer.

How is BCC led?

The Church has two teams which function together to ensure that the Church runs smoothly.  The ‘leadership team’ is responsible for overseeing the spiritual direction and day to day running of the Church, while the ‘Management team’ is responsible for overseeing the practical and financial elements that ensure that the Church can operate effectively. For more details see 'Leadership Team'.

How are decisions made?

Decisions that affect the day to day running of the Church are made by the Leadership team. Decisions that affect the whole Church (such as directional changes, staffing/building requirements, etc.) are presented to the Members for feedback before a decision is made.

How do you communicate with each other?

To keep notices on a Sunday to an absolute minimum we email our news sheet ‘Jungle Drums’ to everyone who’s online, which is almost everyone. We have recently launched the BCC 'Net', a private online forum to help keep us all connected in between meeting up.

Do you Christen children?

At BCC we choose to dedicate a child rather than Christen. (See sheet entitled ‘The difference between child dedication and child baptism’). We do this in recognition that we as Parents cannot decide our child’s salvation, because each individual must make the decision to have a personal relationship with Jesus for him/herself. The Dedication service provides the opportunity to celebrate the life of the child, and for parents to express their desire and commitment to their child.

How is BCC financed?

The Church is wholly financed by the membership of the Church. We have charitable status and our accounts are externally audited by a local firm of Accountants.
